VISA
All foreign nationals who seek to enter Ethiopia require a visa. However, Ethiopian origin ID holders and travelers who arrive in Addis Ababa Bole International Airport to take a connecting flight, provided that they do not leave the airport or pass the Immigration Desk, are not required to have a visa.
The type of visa you are required to obtain is determined mainly by the purpose of your intended travel under Ethiopia immigration law. Please make sure that you meet all requirements to receive the type of visa for which you are applying.
VISA TYPES
1. Diplomatic / service visa
- A Note Verbal written from the applicant’s Embassy
- Valid passport for at least six months
- Two recent passport-size photographs
- A completed visa application form
- No Service fee required
- Tourist Visa
The tourist visa is issued for visitors desiring to enter Ethiopia temporarily for tourism or a visit. Citizens of all countries in the globe are eligible for tourist visa provided that they meet all requirements to receive the visa.
You can apply for a tourist visa at the Embassy in person at any time during working hours.

- Current passport – the passport must be valid for at least six months;
- Two recent passport-size photographs
- Copy of Residence Card or Work Permit
- A completed visa application form
- Service fees will be paid in money to the Embassy

USA Citizens can get up to two years multiple entries VISA due to the agreement signed between the Governments of Ethiopia and USA and the VISA fee is 70 USD or 12,600 FDJ.
Apply Online
All international visitors to Ethiopia can apply for their tourist visas (e-Visa) online. Visit www.evisa.gov.et for more information.
Nationals of African States who can’t make e-Visa payment online can apply online and make the payment on arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport in cash.
Apply on Arrival
All nationals of African countries and nationals of certain countries are eligible to apply for a visa on arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. Please check your eligibility for this service at www.evisa.gov.et.
Foreign nationals who are coming from countries that are not listed as tourist generating countries and, from those countries that do not have an agreement with Ethiopia regarding the issuance of visas on arrival can enter Ethiopia by obtaining a visa from the Ethiopian Embassy. However, if tourists from such countries wish to get a visa on arrival at the airport, they are required to get approval from the Immigration and Citizenship Service.

Business Visa
If you wish to travel to Ethiopia to undertake business or any work, including voluntary work, you will require a business visa approved by the office of Immigration and Citizenship service. Business visa applications can be made in person at the Embassy or via post or courier service.

- The Host Company or sponsor in Ethiopia should request a visa approval from Ethiopian Immigration and Citizen Services

- Valid passport for at least six months
