Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed delivers message on the occasion of the 127th Adwa Victory Day

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD), in a message he delivered on the 2nd of March 2023 on the occasion of the 127th Anniversary of the Victory of Adwa stated that the present generation needs to commemorate this year’s Adwa Victory Day with renewed commitments to extricate Ethiopia from the challenges of the time. The Premier underlined that the youth should be inspired by the patriot’s success in repelling aggression to lift Ethiopia from dependency.

Ethiopians at every corner might have differences for several reasons, but the Battle of Adwa was viable glue by which they were unwaveringly cemented. Every activity thrown against Ethiopia’s liberty and sovereignty, which targets belittling the country’s greatness, has to be obligingly done away with using the eternal bond cemented by Adwa.

Prime Minister Abiy added:

“We have to remember four invaluable pillars whenever we celebrate the Adwa victory: Prime leaders/organizers of the march (Emperor Menelik II and Empress Taytu), combatants drawn from every corner of the nation, cohorts of the army and the basis of fighters-the general public.”

All Ethiopians regardless of ethnic, religious, and gender differences, and putting discontent over the then regime, defeated the then enemy troops, which were better-equipped and trained.

The premiere continued, “When we request that, what did tie all those lords, prestigious personalities, opinion leaders and the community at large together? The response is an outright one ‘the attitude developed in their mind that ‘Ethiopia is superior to all of us’, ‘the spirit of being Ethiopians’ and ‘Ethiopia prevails over our dignity, disparity, reservations and causes of conflict.’ Nothing was different from this.”

“We can draw quite an important lesson from this; Ethiopia has highly demanded the combined effort of the aforesaid four bodies. So long as all Ethiopians are working towards making their country an affluent, prosperous, independent, and influential African state, we all have to contribute what is expected of us as what our forefathers and foremothers did at the battle of Adwa to be triumphant over poverty and dependency.”

Even today, there are challenges in Ethiopia, but being brave is overcoming these multidimensional hurdles and creating a new well-to-do nation to pass down to the generation to come with its rosy future, unity matters the most. In so doing, Adwa victory could unequivocally be repeated over poverty and backwardness, the Premiere emphasized.
