H.E. Benalf Andualem, Minister of Peace of the FDRE, attended the “Climate Change and Research: The Path to Sustainable Adaptation and Resilience” High-Level Summit in Djibouti from October 23-25,2022, representing Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

The climate summit that convened on ways to devise feasible solutions to the existing Climate crisis by finding a path to Sustainable Adaptation and Resilience, was launched by the president of the Republic of Djibouti, H.E. President Ismail Guelleh, and attended by the president of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, representatives from East African countries, and international organizations.

President Ismail Guelleh commended the strategic partnership between Ethiopia and Djibouti at the official opening remarks of the summit. The president furthered his statement by saying, “The Republic of Djibouti has built an interconnecting line to harness clean hydroelectric power in partnership with Ethiopia.”

H.E. Benalf Andualem, speaking at the High-Level Summit, shared Ethiopia’s experience in mitigating climate change through prevention strategies such as the Green Legacy Initiative.

Later in the panel discussion, the Minister of peace expanded on his remarks by praising the Government of Djibouti leadership in joining hands with Ethiopia to further the Green Legacy Initiative.

Ethiopia’s exemplary climate change prevention measures, particularly

 through its Green Legacy Initiative has been recognized at the Climate Change summit.

Three rounds of tree planting ceremonies have already taken place in Djibouti, with the Ethiopian government presenting a quarter million seedlings, further strengthening the two east African countries’ green economic integration.
